Stunning landscapes and the vitality of nature have always inspired people. Levi Summit exhibitions are rooted in the nature of Lapland and those elements which have allowed people to survive in the barren but phenomenal environment.
Levi Summit maintains both permanent and changing exhibitions, reflecting on and exploring Lapland’s nature: Lappishness, natural creativity in environment and its success.
The Reidar Särestöniemi art collection of Kirsi and Keio Eerikäinen Art Foundation exhibits 59 paintings which magnificently depict the cycle of seasons in Lapland and its flora and fauna. The art collection portrays fell and river landscapes from Levi, Ylläs, Kumputunturi and Reidar’s home farm in Särestö, scenes familiar to locals and frequent visitors to Lapland.
Reidar Särestöniemi (1925–1981) is one of the most renowned Finnish and Lappish artists. Lapland’s nature is rooted in Reidar’s art both in the motifs and strong colour schemes. He attended the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki (1947–1952) and the Ilya Repin Institute in Leningrad (1956–1959).
Exhibition opening hours: Tue - Sun 10 am – 5 pm.
