Golden glitter of Lemmenjoki

Our journey starts from Levi towards Lemmenjoki and gold panning. When we arrive to Lemmenjoki we will travel by traditional riverboat along the beautiful Lemmenjoki river to the historic gold sites of the river about 22km. From the river bank it´s only 600 meter walk to the gold claim where our host will show us the secrets of gold panning and everybody gets try his skills in gold mining. After a while we enjoy a camp lunch or enjoy delicious reindersoup by open fire. On the way back we’ll stop by the Ravadas falls. Before leaving Lemmenjoki we’ll have a chance to visit the studio of the felt maker Kaija Paltto. In old Sámi surroundings you will meet reindeers and have an opportunity to hear traditional Sámi joik. You are welcome to visit the felt maker’s studio at a reindeer farm in an old Sámi setting on the bank of River Lemmenjoki. You will hear about reindeerherders life and history, but also how sheep wool has been handled thousands of years. On the way back to Levi it is nice to share what we have experienced.
