Lapland’s tourism is based on its nature and the wide-ranging consideration of the environment is essential in the development of tourism. In the long term, in accordance with sustainable development, the operation results in savings in the nature and costs, when for example, the energy and material flows required for production purposes are minimized and waste is recycled. The improved management of environmental matters is important to Levi and concrete measures are being made to advance this matter.
Levi selected quality as one of its competitive factors and made systematic regional quality development work for the 2005-2008 period, aided by the Levi DQN project.
Levi's "Green DMN" quality project was an environmentally-oriented development program for the 2008-2010 period. The expectations of the DMN-continuation
project largely focused on environmental capabilities and creating a sustainable development spirit for Levi, aiming towards the constant development of quality and good results. Both foreign and domestic tourists are increasingly interested in the ecological sustainability of their tourism destinations, and it has an impact on their selection of a holiday destination.
Levi's Environmental Team participated in strong cooperation with among others, Kideve’s The Development of Levi’s Village Image as a Competitive Advantage-project, with whom we created the Green Start-environmental quality system and the Levi environmental guide for tourists. The field of duties of the Environmental Team focused on the sustainable development of Levi as the main objective, or around a "carbon-neutral tourism location".
Levi is seeking new matters: in the same way as pioneers. The pioneers are continually looking for new competitive advantages and are open-minded to new issues.
The Environmental Team has selected environmental values for the centre, which guide practical decisions and actions in practice.
Levi's environmental policyOur strength is in our pure nature and this is the starting point for all our operations. We choose energy-efficient and effective working methods and materials. We are building our environment systematically and aesthetically. In our decisions, we take into account Lappish culture and tradition, whenever possible.
We have identified, on the basis of environmental surveys, the significant environmental aspects of our operations, which we will utilise in the development of the region’s environmental operations. Regional cooperation and the commitment of our personnel is also a prerequisite in this operation. By supporting our clients, we will be best able to achieve our aims.
The spirit of Levi is strong, and the region believes in the power of cooperation.
Our motto: It is better that 100 companies make 5 environmental matters than 5 companies perform 100 such matters.
