Violinists Minna Pensola and Antti Tikkanen will perform at Särestö in March as Guests of Silence. Lively violin music will awaken the spring from beneath the snow and invite audiences to explore both Finnish and international art music. Pensola and Tikkanen are internationally active artists who lead several ensembles and serve as the artistic directors of Kuhmo Chamber Music. The March concert program has been jointly designed by the two musicians. The selected works are united by their technical virtuosity, as well as by a spirit of joy and humor.The March concert will feature Sic! by Finnish contemporary composer Lotta Wennäkoski, one of the few composers writing for multidisciplinary ensembles. In this work, the violinists make use of a wide expressive range, including choreography written specifically for the performers. The Sonata for Two Violins by Sergei Prokofiev represents early 20th-century music. The distinctive composer captured joy and lightness in his music, making it a perfect centerpiece for a spring concert. The program also explores the Caprices by Niccolò Paganini—considered by many to be the most challenging collection ever written for solo violin.
