Dänkki Briha is an ethnofuturistic folk “banger machine” inspired by Ingrian, Karelian, and Finnish folk traditions, myths, and urban aesthetics. Their music blends theatrical expression, ancient rhymes, and futuristic soundscapes.

The songs feature southeastern Finnish dialects as well as smaller Finno-Ugric languages and dialects, including Livvi-Karelian and Veps.

“The boundaries of music and expression do, in theory, exist—but in practice, I can’t say where traditional knowledge ends and the modern age begins. Which parts of the lyrics—if any—are centuries-old folk poetry? Perhaps it is precisely this sense of the unknown, unpredictability, and the freedom it brings that forms the purpose and essence of the sound art we hear. Words take on new meanings, times change, and yet like-minded people continue to move along the same shores.”
– Mika Roth / Desibeli, on Dänkki Briha’s debut single Piikapaimen (Feb 2024)
