TreeHugging World Championships 2020

22.08.2020 - 22.08.2020

As the world has moved indoors, our chances of hugging our fellow human beings have become limited. But fear not, there are still trees to hug! Combining sustainable fun and the benefits of connecting with nature the world’s first TreeHugging World Championships 2020 will be held in Levi, in Lapland northern Finland on August 22.2020.

The organizer of this event is HaliPuu, a small company with a big heart. It has worked in Lapland since 2015, first to protect the family’s own forest from felling and now, years later, to spread the experience and benefits of loving trees worldwide both in the actual forest in Levi as well as online.

Because of COVID-19, this first event will be held with a modified program that you can participate in in TWO ways online and have great fun and a chance to win a great prize!

1) This year, there will be an invitational live event in LEVI in our HaliPuu forest on August 22 at 12 o’clock (noon) CET and you can follow the event online live HERE from anywhere in the world. There are 9 local contestants representing their home countries from 4 continents, competing in speed, dedication and free-style hugging.

2) From now until the end of the TreeHugging week August 29th, 2020 you can also participate by taking a picture of you, your family member or friend hugging a tree, and sharing it with HaliPuu. You can do this on the contest website https://www.halipuu.com/treehugging2020/ or on Instagram with hashtags #TreeHugging2020 and #HaliPuu. Remember to include the coordinates of the tree and a short description, so that the picture can be added on HaliPuu’s world map of trees!

The winner of #TreeHugging2020 will be invited to defend their title personally during TreeHugging World Championships 2021 in the HaliPuu -forest, Levi, Finland, and will receive one-week free accommodation (sponsored by Visit Levi) and a private Arctic Cocooning experience with the HaliPuu-family during their trip (travel not included).
