69 KM ROUTE

The longer Ylläs-Levi MTB route starts from the Kellokas nature centre. Warming up is done by heading uphill towards the parking area of the ski resort, from which you will cycle back down the official off-road cycle route towards Äkäslompolo village. After following the shore of Lake Äkäslompolojärvi, the route runs across Nilivaara to Lake Kesänkijärvi and goes around it to Hangaskuru. From Hangaskuru, a rise of about four kilometres is cycled to Kukastunturi.

After the peak of Kukastunturi has been conquered, we will descend to Kotamaja. The journey continues along the gorge between Lainio and Pyhätunturi to the south end of Lake Pyhäjärvi. From the lake we will pedal down to the lower quadrants of Aakenustunturi to Äkäslompolo-Kittilä road. After the bridge over Aakenus River, a gravel road is pedalled to the hut of Lake Aakenusjärvi, from which the route will continue as the forest trail south of Pyhätunturi and Kätkätunturi heads towards Lake Immeljärvi. The rest of the journey will be pedalled on the landscape route of Levitunturi to the centre of Levi.

The MTB route runs partly in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. The route will not be closed to other travellers, so other walkers, cyclists and hikers can come along. Littering on the route is strictly prohibited. Time recording closes at 18:00, 8 hours after departure time.

30 KM ROUTE

The shorter distance is suitable for new beginner riders. The 30 km distance starts from the parking lot of Lake Pyhäjärvi, from which we will pedal down to the lower quadrants of Aakenustunturi to Äkäslompolo-Kittilä road. After the challenging and technical distance of 3.5 km at the beginning of the route, the route becomes easy to pedal. After the bridge over the River Aakenusjoki, a gravel road is pedalled to the hut of Lake Aakenusjärvi. From there, the forest trail south of Pyhätunturi and Kätkätunturi will continue through Homevaara, offering competitors a couple of tougher but technically easy climbs. The next direction is towards Lake Immeljärvi. The rest of the journey will be pedalled on the landscape route of Levitunturi to the centre of Levi.

The route will not be closed to other travellers, so other walkers, cyclists and hikers can come along. Littering on the route is strictly prohibited. Time recording closes at 18:00, 5 hours after departure time.
