10 tips from locals

Follow these tips to guarantee an unforgettable day.

1. Let go of your schedule: When in Levi, don't do all the same things at the same time as you do at home. A holiday is a holiday, getting away from your regular routines. The key is to enjoy the moment and let the mood take you away!

2. Go rowing on Lake Pyhäjärvi in Aakenus: A rowing trip in the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park is sure to be an experience you will never forget. The boat is waiting for you on the shore and you can collect the keys from the Teboil service station in Kittilä.

3. Local products: Taste local delicacies from Lapland, such as reindeer meat, berries and fish. Buy local handicrafts and foods as souvenirs.

4. Explore nature: Get yourself a map and start exploring your surroundings to see what's out there. You can also head out with someone who knows the area and learn more about the nature and history of Lapland.

5. Experience the thrill of speed in summer: Take the Gondola on Levi’s Front Slope to the top of the fell and speed down the legendary summer sled track. The sled can carry two people and is also safe for the youngest members of the family when accompanied by an adult.

6. Check out the current events: Take a look at the Levi events calendar and take part in events with locals. There's something for everyone!

7. Respect others: There are plenty of places in Levi where you can simply enjoy nature and the peace and quiet. Leave as little trace of your visit as possible. Nature and the locals will thank you!

8. Take part in a pub quiz: In the winter season, pub quizzes, bingo and other activities provide a nice change from an evening spent in your place of accommodation.

9. Rent a car – or a bike: With a car, you can travel freely around the area and easily explore other places near Levi. In summer, you can easily go on expeditions by bike.

10. Climb a fell: Hike around the Ice Age Trail on the fell, where a slight breeze will keep the mosquitoes at bay. The trail starts just outside the Levi Summit Event Centre, runs clockwise around Levi Fell, close to the tree line, and circles back to Levi Summit. At almost 9 kilometres long, the trail has 13 nature trail signposts and 10 kilometre posts.
