The Reindeer Stew That Got Its Own Restaurant – Bistro West

10.3.2026

It all began with a single idea that stayed in mind for years: reindeer stew. Around it, something lasting and timeless could be built.

When the Levi West chairlift opened in 2019 and the West Slopes began to develop their own hub, the idea finally found its place – in a slope-side restaurant that doesn’t rush, but invites you to slow down.

Opened in February 2025, Bistro West is not a typical slope restaurant. It is a bistro where a calm atmosphere and carefully prepared food go hand in hand – every dish is crafted by hand, from start to finish. In the kitchen, ingredients are slowly simmered, seasoned, tasted and finished with care – just as good food should be.

During the day, the most ordered dish is always the same: reindeer stew. It is a permanent part of the menu – not because it has to be, but because guests keep asking for it. The reindeer comes from Karessuvanto, its flavour rich and smooth, and when combined with a slowly simmered broth it becomes a soup that gently pauses the rhythm of a ski day. You won’t find another one like it anywhere else in Levi.

The menu at Bistro West is short and clear. Whitefish arrives from nearby Lake Jerisjärvi, while the berries come from local foragers. The dishes are designed to be easy to share with your table – or to keep entirely to yourself.

The slope restaurant is located in a new 1,400-square-metre building that also includes accommodation. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and bright, and the fell landscape outside the windows reminds you exactly where you are. For a moment, there is no hurry to get back on the slopes.

Reindeer stew remains the heart of Bistro West. What started as a single dish and an idea has now become a welcoming place to pause in the middle of the new life growing around Levi’s West Slopes. Here, a meal is not just a quick break – it is a moment in the day you’ll want to return to.
