Five must visit destinations in Levi for hikers.
1- Hiking in the midnight sun
During the summer the sun shines throughout the night in Lapland. There is a special kind of magical atmosphere as the sun is shining low in the horizon. Dew appears on the leaves during the night. The ground is moist and the aroma of the nature is pure and fresh. The sen-ses awaken as you’re alone with the sound of the wind and silence. The so-called nightless night begins at the end of May and comes to an end around mid-July. Levi fell has easy paths for beginners. There is a suitable night hike path that takes you to the summit.
2 - Panorama stairs
There is a gem hidden behind the coniferous trees behind the Levi Hotel Spa: 766 stairs that lead all the way up the Levi fell reaching Hotel Levi Panorama. Many use it for training as it’s an easy way to get your heart rate up when you climb with a brisk pace. A more leisurely tempo gives you time to breath in the fresh forest air and listen to the birds singing. A spectacular view waits for you up there. You can enjoy it also accompanied by a well-deserved beverage in the restaurant Panorama. The hotel has an exhibition called Samiland which provides a peek into the Sami culture.
3 - Kätkätunturi fell
ätkätunturi fell is an ideal hiking location for many reasons: it’s near the Levi centre yet it offers unique peace and quiet as there aren’t any ski lifts. The fell is beautiful especially during the foliage season when the birch trees change colour and the bare fell tops display an unimaginable palette of reds and oranges. Keep in mind the hike takes about 1,5–2 hours one way so pack a coffee thermos, sandwiches and sausages with you. You can roast the sausages on a camping site. Remember to bring a fire starter and a knife to whittle kindling.
4 - Santa's Cabin
Santa's Cabin was built for a film set in the Levi fell slopes. The movie was called Christmas Story and this was the setting for Santa’s childhood home. Most people recognise the grey wooden building from numerous Instagram photos taken by travellers visiting the picturesque place. There is nothing inside the cabin but the terrace has an amazing view across the Ylläs, Kätkä and Aakenus fells. It is situated in the Levitunturi slope between pistes number 10 and 11. It is an easy spot to reach. It’s a half an hour hike from the base of the Gondoli2000 lift or you can take the panoramic lift.
5 - Adventure Park
A zip line marathon is something you’ll never forget: Levi Adventure Park has 10 lines at the height of 7–12m with the longest zip line being over 100m long. The Adventure Park offers also a course where you can put your balance and muscle strength to a test. You can walk on a rope and try the swaying rope ladders and other activities. You can push your limits also by trying base jumping. Wear clothes suitable for sports and shoes that support the ankle. Safety gear will be provided for you. The Adventure Park is situated in the Gondoli area.
