It has been predicted that there's going to be Northern Lights in Levi soon. So take a look skywards! Prediction provided by Sunsää.
Levi sparked my soul.
- SNOW AND SKIING, that’s what I’m all about here in Levi. Last year the first snowfall occurred on October 12th and it stayed on the ground. So winter began right after the colourful autumn foliage period and it was awesome.
I moved to Levi permanently this autumn. There are still unopened boxes left. My daughter just began her upper secondary school studies for alpine skiers.
You always have a nice amount of snow and superb slopes with variety. I work at the Pihlajalinna Medical Center and during the ski season my ski boots are in my office. If there’s even an hour to spare, I’m off to the slopes, in all weathers.
I remember many perfect days on the pistes from last season.
There had been a heavy snowfall in the early hours on one Monday in December. Followed by 40 centimetres of fresh snow during the day. I was the first at the lifts when they opened and I got to make the first tracks in the snow. Slope number six is one of my favourites. It’s brilliant for sweeping high-speed carving turns. Early on in the winter skiing is great also because of the blue moment when the afternoon turns into evening and you only see a glimpse of the sun.
This last winter season I lived here in Levi and went home to southern Finland only on every other weekend. It was quite rainy and dark there. Often as I rode the ski lift, I looked at the pistes and the landscape and felt the need to pinch my-self. I kept thinking oh my, am I really here?
When Tanja Poutiainen announced an end to her successful racing career in spring 2014, it was clear that this Finnish alpine skiing heroine would be no couch potato. I was keen to hear more about her plans for the future and thoughts on the past. We ended up talking about football.
