Levi – a unique destination above the Arctic Circle

Silence, pureness and unique natural environments, unparalleled in the world.

Levi is a round-the-year activity resort and the biggest ski resort in Finland. This unique Lappish destination in the Arctic entices holidaymakers with its nature, peacefulness and wide selection of activities as well as all the services on offer in addition to great accommodation. Also, Lapland is easy to reach.

This year, the Levi winter season opening weekend has been combined with the biggest international competition held at the resort, the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Levi, on 9 - 12 November 2017. The winter season opening weekend – as well as the entire winter season at Levi, the most popular winter sport resort in Lapland – is once again expected to be very lively for both Finnish and international holidaymakers alike.

Levi's snow-filled winter season continues until the end of April. The second international Visma Ski Classic Ylläs-Levi competition is the season ending event, taking place on Saturday, 14 April 2018. The race is a unique winter event that brings together professional elite skiers and a huge mass of amateur skiers in the amazing mountainous landscape of Finnish Lapland.

There are 700,000 visitors at Levi each year, with over 90% of the international customers arriving to Levi and the Finnish Lapland by plane. The Kittilä airport is only 15 minutes away from Levi, and this winter there are seven airlines flying there from over 30 different destinations. The “catchment area” of Kittilä airport covers roughly all of Finnish Lapland, Northern Norway and Northern Sweden – especially when it comes to international passengers.

Levi offers a wide selection of accommodation options. Holidaymakers can choose anything from ski-in ski-out hotels to ice hotels and from luxury cabins in the heart of the wilderness to igloo suites revealing the northern sky in all its glory.

Levi has 24,500 beds in seven hotels, five apartment hotels and a variety of different cottages. Levi has also started a new construction phase for accommodation. CNN Travel has listed “7 spectacular hotels for viewing the northern lights”, with the Finnish hotel Levin Iglut at the top of the list.

– The situation with advance bookings for the upcoming season is excellent, and our hotel occupancy is extremely high in December - February. At the Levi Tourist Office’s booking centre for cabins and cottages, the reservation rate is considerably higher than in 2016, and we are expecting moderate growth in registered overnight stays compared to the 20% of last year, says Kristiina Kukkohovi, the CEO of Levi Tourist Office Ltd.

In addition to great slopes and ski tracks, Levi offers a wide range of different winter activities. There are over 200 tour operators, 50 adventure companies and 50 restaurants serving the customers. Levi’s Lapland village has a great variety of shops, bars and restaurants as well as a swimming pool and spa, perfect for unwinding after a day out in the fresh air – which by the way is the purest air in the inhabited world. Levi has been ranked by Lonely Planet as one of the Top 10 destinations in 2017.
