Not to be missed – winter starts here!
This year, the Levi winter season opening celebrations will take place a week later than usual, as the official opening weekend has been combined with this winter’s biggest international competition at Levi as well as the international business seminar making its comeback into Levi’s calendar of events. On the second weekend of November, the mountain will be buzzing with a grand sporting event, unforgettable experiences and a wonderful & exotic Lapland-style programme.
The winter season opening weekend – as well as the entire winter season at Levi, the most popular winter sport resort in Lapland – is once again expected to be very lively for both Finnish and international holidaymakers alike.
World Cup Levi 11 - 12 November 2017
The Levi Black slope will once again turn into the heart of world cup action, when it’s time for the first points of the season in both Men’s and Ladies’ Slalom on 11 - 12 November 2017. The ski resort was able to fully confirm the race by storing over 30,000 cubic metres of snow on the slope and thus guaranteeing the right snow conditions for the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup opening in slalom.
According to World Cup Levi Secretary General Marko Mustonen, the new snow storing investments are important for maintaining Levi’s stable position among the first-class world cup organisers.
- Being able to guarantee 100 per cent snow-sure conditions gives an important signal to the spectators, athletes, partners as well as FIS that they can always rely on us as race organisers. In addition to being sport at the highest level, the world cup is also a commercial activity, and neither should be entered into with a “let’s hope for the best” attitude, Mustonen says.
“Levi Suksee” 9 - 10 November 2017
The highly popular “Levi Suksee” business seminar known for its straight-talking nature is back. Organised in conjunction with the winter season opening, the seminar brings to Levi many interesting top names in business and finance – both Finnish and international.
This year’s theme is “Social Responsibility in Business”, with keynote speakers such as Wenzel Michalski from Human Rights Watch, Tarja Tyni from Mandatum Life and the Finnish National Conciliator Minna Helle. Also represented are a number of other experts of their fields.
- We are excited about Levi Suksee’s return and about being able to make it happen together with Mandatum Life. Our goal is to develop the Levi winter season opening so that it becomes an international ski-season opening, and Levi Suksee’s return supports this endeavour, says Otto Lintunen of Levi Events.
The entertainment side of the winter season opening on Levi mountain features popular Finnish artists and bands such as Jenni Vartiainen and Egotrippi, wonderful experiences for the whole family and memorable moments enjoying the wide selection of entertainment and activities on offer.
Levi is round-the-year activity resort and biggest ski resort in Finland, Lapland. Unique service center in the Arctic is enticing holidaymakers with its nature, peacefulness, wide selection of activities as well as the variety of services on offer in addition to great accommodation and of course the fact that Lapland is easy to reach.
- The situation with advance bookings for the upcoming season is excellent, and our hotel occupancy is extremely high in December - February. At the Levi Tourist Office’s booking centre for cabins and cottages, the rate of reservations made is considerably higher than in 2016. We are expecting moderate growth in registered overnight stays compared to the 20% of last year. Our domestic guests primarily use cottage accommodation, says Kristiina Kukkohovi, the CEO of Levi Tourist Office Ltd.
Levi Suksee, World Cup Levi and much, much more – come and kick-start your winter at Levi!
