Levi Black slope was in as excellent shape as the athletes had praised beforehand in the World Cup slalom opening race. The winner on Saturday was Slovenian Tina Maze, who was already in the lead after the first run. Frida Hansdotter from Sweden was second 0.34 seconds behind. Austrian Kathrin Zettel took the third place.
Maze was happy about her victory – and named the prize reindeer Victor after the race. “I’m really satisfied with the race. We arrived in Levi in advance and were able to train here in perfect conditions. For me the most important thing in alpine skiing is the ability to ski fast. Therefore I love slalom”, Maze said.
Frida Hansdotter was also satisfied with her performance. “I have a feeling I still have a lot to achieve during this season. My goal is to return home with a big prize made of glass after the season”, Hansdotter told.
Kathrin Zettel went through an operation after last season. “After the injury this feels very good. I am really motivated for this season. I want to win medals in the World Championships”, the happy Austrian said with a huge smile on her face.
On Sunday men will open their slalom season at Levi. Young Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen will start the race with bib number one. Felix Neureuther from Germany will have the bib number two and Mattias Hargin from Sweden bib number three.
