Levi Olympic Training Center – The Fell Headquarters of Elite Sport

5.3.2026

Levi is much more than a popular holiday destination. It is also a hub for elite sport, where skills are refined at a world-class level and dreams are taken seriously.

At the Levi Olympic Training Center, the athlete’s path runs from high-speed race gates to spectacular aerial tricks. The Levi Olympic Training Center (OTC) is part of the official high-performance sport network of the Finnish Olympic Committee – and a living example of how snow conditions, infrastructure and expertise combine to create a truly world-class training environment.

Levi is the only ski resort in Finland that hosts an annual Alpine Skiing World Cup race. It is also a place where future stars take their first steps – and where established athletes fine-tune their technique during critical phases of the competition season.

What is an Olympic Training Center?

The Olympic Training Center network consists of sports institutes and specialised training locations that provide international-level facilities for national federations and elite athletes.

Levi’s OTC profile focuses particularly on alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding – but its possibilities extend far beyond winter sports. The area also serves as a year-round training environment for sports such as cycling, trail running, orienteering and training camps.

Levi offers elite athletes everything they need: world-class slopes and snow parks, modern off-snow training facilities, service and testing infrastructure, accommodation, nutrition services and immediate access to mountain conditions. The long winter season also creates a competitive advantage in both spring and autumn – when snow conditions elsewhere in Europe are limited.

Infrastructure That Supports the Athlete

Training conditions in Levi are truly versatile. The Alpine Training Park (ATP) has been designed specifically for alpine skiing, making full use of the natural terrain and slope formations. This allows athletes to develop different racing lines and techniques efficiently.

Freestyle and snowboard athletes train in several snow parks, each offering its own combination of lines, rails and jumps suitable for different skill levels. South Park serves as a national-level competition venue, while Fun Park is often the first step into freestyle riding for younger athletes.

Safe jump training is made possible by the Landing Bag – an inflatable landing pad located in Fun Park. It allows freestyle athletes to practice new tricks without the impact of a hard landing, lowering the threshold to experiment and develop skills safely.

The Front Slopes area and the new Glacier snow storage area form the core of Levi’s early-season training environment, often available already in early October. These slopes provide profiles suitable for competition and training, with designs that support gate training, speed disciplines and technical skiing.

In addition, athletes have access to indoor training facilities, strength training areas and cooperation opportunities with the Lapland Sports Academy and other national training centres. Accommodation options, nutrition expertise and transportation are seamlessly integrated so that athletes can focus on what matters most: training and recovery.

Levi Olympic Training Center is not just a slope – it is a complete training ecosystem.

Spring in Levi – The Crown of the Competition Season

Spring 2025 once again demonstrated the significance of Levi for Finnish competitive sport. During April and May, the mountain hosted numerous Finnish Championships, Nordic-level competitions, junior camps and open public events.

Week after week, Levi brought together enthusiasts from different disciplines, young talents and elite athletes.

Competitions in the West Slopes and South Park included Finnish Championships in alpine skiing for both youth and adults, international Nordic championships in snowboarding and freestyle, as well as technically demanding banked slalom races and precision skiing events. The season culminated with the youth Speed Camp and freestyle finals.

This remarkable spring season proved how the capacity of the Levi Olympic Training Center supports multi-sport event programs – and how the mountain serves competitive sport, coaching and the wider snow sports community alike. At the same time, these events attracted thousands of visitors and reinforced Levi’s position as both a competition venue and a home base for the next generation of athletes.

The World Cup – Levi’s Crown Jewel

Levi is globally known for hosting an Alpine Skiing World Cup race, which often opens the entire competition season.

The Levi Black race slope, the Front Slopes Glacier snow area, the facilities and reliable snow conditions have secured Levi’s place in the international race calendar.

The World Cup also has a strong local impact. Levi’s ski school, club activities, junior camps and service culture have become increasingly professional as the world’s best athletes return to the same slopes year after year. Through OTC activities, this expertise spreads even further – also into disciplines such as freeski, moguls and banked slalom.

Levi Snow Academy – A Path to the Top

Levi Snow Academy is an essential part of the OTC ecosystem and supports young athletes on their journey toward elite sport.

The academy offers goal-oriented coaching, sport-specific expertise and educational flexibility for athletes who want to combine studies with competitive sport. The program works closely with local schools, national federations and coaches, and for many junior athletes it represents the first concrete step toward an international career.

International Collaboration and the Future

Levi works closely with several national federations, and international teams also use the resort for training. Early-season training camps are particularly attractive for teams from Central Europe and North America, and Levi’s ability to guarantee snow conditions is a key competitive advantage.

In the future, the goal is to develop the OTC concept even further and more systematically. Levi aims to serve more sports – and increasingly also during the summer season. The 20th anniversary of Levi Bike Park in summer 2026 is part of this vision: cycling, orienteering and outdoor sports are all part of modern elite athletic training.

“For us in Levi, it is important to contribute to building the future of Finnish elite sport. Olympic Training Center status is not just a title for us – it means practical work, partnerships and long-term development,” says Marko Mustonen, Business Director of Levi Ski Resort.

“We have the resources and the passion to create conditions where athletes can develop toward the world’s top level – all year round.”

Levi Olympic Training Center is not only a training facility but also a community – a place where success is built through daily work and where athletes have every opportunity to develop toward the top.

At the world-class level, details matter. And that is where Levi truly stands out.
