Recycling and eco-points

Also when on holiday you can influence how much and what type of waste you produce.

Recycling and eco-points

The first tip is to reduce the amount of waste and the second tips is to recycle.

REDUCE WASTE AND RECYCLE

Avoid disposable dishes, food tastes better served on ceramic plates.

Reduce the amount of food waste produced at your lodgings and restaurants – when dining at buffets, only take as much food as you can eat.

Buy goods, not just packages. Avoid products that have been overpacked and politely refuse unnecessary plastic bags.

When you leave on a trip, pack your lunch in durable, reusable containers or reusable bags.

There are many waste collection points in Levi.
Take a look at the map and check which Eco points is the closest. Paper, glass and metal can all be put to proper use.

Batteries have to be placed in the appropriate battery collection boxes you can find at the supermarkets, old or left over medical drugs and broken mercury thermometers need to be returned to the pharmacies.

When hiking clean paper and cardboard can be burned in the campfires, but please do not place other other waste in the fire.

In Finland, every time a person buys a beverage in a bottle or can, they pay a deposit of 15 to 40 cents. The system covers alcoholic beverages, soft drinks and bottled water, in aluminium cans, glass bottles and bottles made from PET plastic. You can return all bottles and cans at the return machines found at the supermarkets. The return machines are easy to use and when you present the receipt to the store’s cashier, they give you cash back or deduct the bottle-return money from your purchase.

All returned containers are recycled, or the materials are reused. Recycling bottles and cans conserves energy and raw materials, and reduces litter in cities and wilderness areas.
