Is Levi a good destination for a first ski holiday?
Yes. Levi offers slopes for all skill levels, from first-timers to experienced skiers and snowboarders.

The area is home to some of Levi’s longest and gentlest slopes, as well as Leevilandia – Family Park,Levi Ski School and South Point Rental. As your confidence grows, you can move on to explore more of Levi’s slopes around the fell.

What should I book before my ski holiday in Levi?
If you are visiting during a busy holiday period, planning ahead makes your first days much easier. There are three things worth booking before you arrive: your ski passes, equipment and ski school lessons.
1. Choose your ski pass
A valid ski pass gives you access to Levi’s slopes and lifts. If you are planning to ski around the fell, a regular Levi ski pass is the easiest option.
If you are a first-time skier or expect to spend most of your time in Leevilandia – Family Park, you can also choose a Leevilandia – Family Park area ticket.
Levi ski passes include the Ski Bus, making it easy to travel between Levi village and the different slope areas. The Leevilandia – Family Park area ticket also includes use of the Ski Bus.
Buy your ski passes online in advance and save 2%. When you purchase your ski pass online at least 14 days in advance, you get 5% off the regular price. You can then collect your ski passes from a ticket machine when you arrive and head straight to the slopes.

2. Rent your ski or snowboard equipment
You don’t need to own skiing equipment to enjoy a ski holiday in Levi.
Levi Ski Resort has rental shops at both Zero Point, next to the Front Slopes in Levi village, and South Point at the South Slopes. Equipment is available for adults and children and for different skill levels.
For alpine skiing, you will usually need:
skis
ski boots
poles
helmet
For snowboarding, you will need a snowboard, snowboard boots and a helmet.
The rental staff will help you choose equipment suited to your height, size and skill level. If you are taking a ski school lesson, make sure you have your equipment ready before the lesson starts.
Book and pay for your rental equipment online in advance and save 2%. When you arrive, all you need to do is collect your equipment from the rental shop.

3. Book ski school
If you have never skied before, you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
Levi Ski School operates at the South Slopes, making it easy to combine lessons with the beginner-friendly slopes, Leevilandia – Family Park and the services at South Point.
Levi Ski School offers lessons for children and adults, from complete first-timers to experienced skiers looking to improve their technique. You can choose from group courses and private lessons depending on your age, skill level and what you would like to learn.
Ski school lessons can fill up quickly, especially during the busiest holiday periods, so we recommend booking in advance. Not sure which lesson is right for you? Check the Ski School FAQ for help choosing the best option before booking.
For first-timers, lessons begin with the basics: getting familiar with the equipment, moving on skis, stopping, controlling your speed, making your first turns and learning how to use the lifts safely.
A lesson can also be a good idea if you already know how to ski but have not been on the slopes for a while.

Where should beginners start skiing in Levi?
The South Slopes are a natural starting point for your first days on skis in Levi. The area has wide and gentle slopes and is also home to Leevilandia – Family Park.
South Point brings the essential services for your first day conveniently together: Levi Ski School, equipment rental, beginner-friendly slopes, Leevilandia – Family Park and restaurant services are all in the same area.
Getting there is easy too. Levi ski passes include use of the Ski Bus, and the Leevilandia – Family Park area ticket includes the Ski Bus as well, so you can travel between Levi village and the South Slopes without a car.
Once you are comfortable controlling your speed, turning and using the lifts, you can start exploring more of Levi’s slopes around the fell.

What is Leevilandia – Family Park?
Leevilandia – Family Park is Levi’s dedicated area for families and beginners, located at the South Slopes next to South Point.
It is designed to make those first experiences on snow as easy and enjoyable as possible. The area has gentle slopes, two covered magic carpet lifts and two button lifts, making it a natural place to practise skiing and learn how to use lifts.
Leevilandia – Family Park is also much more than a place to practise skiing. Families can enjoy sledding and snow tubing, take part in weekly activities and warm up between outdoor adventures. There is also an outdoor fireplace where you can take a break, enjoy your own snacks and roast sausages or marshmallows over the fire.
Leevi’s Playground provides an indoor space for playing, taking a break and enjoying your own snacks.
And keep your eyes open for Leevi the Wolverine – Levi’s mascot is a regular visitor to Leevilandia – Family Park.
Do children need ski school?
There is no rule saying that children must attend ski school, and many parents naturally consider teaching their children themselves.
However, learning with a professional ski instructor can make those first experiences easier for both children and parents.
Lessons progress step by step and focus on skills such as balance, stopping, speed control, turning and using lifts safely. Most importantly, children can learn at a pace suited to their age and ability.
The right age to start skiing is individual, and Levi Ski School offers lessons for children aged 4 and up. A child’s enthusiasm, motor skills and confidence all play a part. Before booking a lesson, it can be helpful to let younger children try on ski boots and become familiar with the snow and beginner area first.
Ski school is not just for children either. Adults taking their first turns – or wanting to improve their technique – can book lessons too.

What should I wear for skiing in Lapland?
Winter temperatures in Lapland can vary considerably, so dressing in layers is the easiest way to stay comfortable.
Start with a warm base layer that moves moisture away from your skin. Add an insulating middle layer and finish with warm, wind-resistant outerwear.
Remember:
warm ski gloves or mittens
ski socks
a neck warmer
a helmet
suitable layers for the weather
Avoid wearing several pairs of thick socks inside ski boots. Properly fitting boots and one good pair of ski socks will usually keep your feet more comfortable.
For children especially, regular warm-up breaks can make a big difference. Check the weather forecast before heading out and adjust your clothing and plans to the conditions.
What should your first day on the slopes look like?
There is no need to ski the entire fell on your first day.
Give yourself plenty of time in the morning to collect your equipment, get your ski passes and find your way to the slopes.
If you are new to skiing, the best way to get started is with Levi Ski School. A professional instructor will help you get familiar with your equipment and teach you the basics step by step – from moving and balancing on skis to stopping, controlling your speed, making turns and using the lifts safely.
If you have booked a lesson, arrive with your equipment and ski pass ready before the agreed starting time.
And remember to take breaks. Your first day is about getting comfortable on snow – not about skiing as many kilometres as possible.

Can experienced skiers enjoy Levi too?
Absolutely.
A first holiday in Levi does not necessarily mean a first time on skis. Families and groups often include several different skill levels, and Levi makes it easy for everyone to find suitable terrain.
While beginners practise at Leevilandia – Family Park or on the gentle South Slopes, more experienced skiers can explore Levi’s wider slope network, snow parks and more challenging terrain.
As beginners gain confidence, the whole group can gradually start exploring more of the fell together.
