The search is over. The €20,000 gold bar hidden in the fells of Levi, Finnish Lapland, has been found, bringing the first-ever Midnight Sun Hunt to a successful conclusion after 33 days of adventure under the arctic sun.

Launched on 18 June 2026, the Midnight Sun Hunt invited travelers and outdoor enthusiasts to follow a series of clues across Levi, Finnish Lapland, in search of a hidden gold bar. The campaign attracted widespread international attention in more than 60 countries, with coverage from major media outlets around the world including CNN and The Independent.

The Midnight Sun Hunt invited both locals and travelers to take part in a treasure hunt with a €20,000 gold bar as the main prize. After 33 days of competition, the treasure was found by a 28-year-old Finnish traveler who was on holiday in Levi. He doesn't want his name made public.

"I've traveled to Lapland and northern Norway for the two previous summers as well. I got a hotel gift card from a relative as a Christmas present and decided to use it in Levi when I saw the news about the hidden gold", he said.

The finder is from Espoo, Southern Finland, and he was traveling alone, since his partner stayed behind for a summer job in the Helsinki area. He plans to sell the gold in the near future, putting most of the money into savings and a small slice toward a future trip.

"Maybe on that trip I won't have to sleep in a tent," he laughs.

Over the course of the summer, participants explored Levi's trails, fell landscapes, local attractions and landmarks while solving clues released by the organizers. New clues gradually narrowed down the possible location of the prize, encouraging both visitors and locals to discover the unique beauty of the Arctic summer season.

Three clues were released over the summer weeks before the first lucky finder made his way to the treasure. The 28-year-old traveler ultimately found the treasure in the terrain of Kätkä Fell, a tall fell in the Levi area. The treasure had been hidden north of the fell's hiking trail and was found among a field of large boulders.

According to Visit Levi, the campaign exceeded expectations both in terms of international visibility and participant interest.

"We hoped the Midnight Sun Hunt would inspire people to discover Levi during the summer season, but the global response has been beyond anything we imagined. We have seen tremendous interest from around the world, and visitors arriving in Levi specifically to take part in the adventure," said Satu Pesonen, CEO of Visit Levi.

"I've been especially delighted that both travelers and local people have told us they've spent a great deal of time outdoors and with their loved ones, sharing nature experiences together. The hunt showcased a side of Lapland that many travelers have not yet experienced. The midnight sun, the open fell landscapes and the endless summer days created a unique setting for this adventure.”

The Midnight Sun Hunt was organized by Visit Levi in cooperation with Agnico Eagle Finland and Levi Ski Resort. Throughout the campaign, participants were encouraged to explore the area responsibly and respect the surrounding natural environment.

While the gold has now been found, organizers say the story is only beginning. Planning for next year's Midnight Sun Hunt is already underway. The hunt will be held again in summer 2027.
